America west of the Mississippi was settled by the vets of the ACW and did a good job putting aside their differences to build that half of the country in collaboration. My cultural baggage doesn’t include a dog in that fight. My solution to that problem is simple. We arrange the map. Take the western states, confederate states and Canada west of Ontario and form one country. Let the Midwest, and Northeast and eastern Canada to form a their own country. Let California go independent. I find I have in common culturally with guys from Alberta and Arkansas than I do with guys from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or Nova Scotia.
